The French authorities cannot guarantee the safety of traveling Ajax fans. There is a high risk of public order disturbances around the match with Marseille. Additionally, the terror threat level in France is at its highest, limiting police capacity.

Recently, there were severe disturbances surrounding the league match between Marseille and Olympique Lyon, which was canceled due to unrest. The Lyon team bus was pelted before kickoff, and coach Fabio Grosso was hit in the face. This incident caused a significant stir in the French football world.

For Ajax, the away game against Marseille is the last chance to advance in the Europa League. To do so, John van 't Schip's team must win at the Stade de Vélodrome. If they succeed, a victory over AEK Athens in the final round could be enough to secure a place in the top two.
