Van den Boomen had already missed Ajax's recent matches due to his knee injury. He continued to experience issues with it, which led to him undergoing surgery during the international break, as reported by Ajax. He underwent surgery on his left knee last Friday and will spend the coming period recovering.

This means that Van den Boomen will not be able to play for Ajax for the rest of this calendar year. He hopes to make his comeback after the winter break. Ajax still has matches against Vitesse, Olympique Marseille (Europa League), NEC, RKC Waalwijk (remainder of an earlier match), Sparta, AEK Athens (Europa League), PEC Zwolle, and USV Hercules (cup) scheduled for this year.

Van den Boomen has participated in ten of the eleven Eredivisie matches played this season. He started in seven of these matches. The midfielder, who was picked up on a free transfer this summer, has scored two goals and provided one assist in these appearances.
