The upcoming 'Derby della Madonnina' on Monday is set to be extraordinarily significant, as Inter Milan stands on the brink of clinching the Serie A title with a victory over their archrivals AC Milan.

Should Inter win, they would secure the Scudetto with five matchdays still remaining, marking a historic early championship in one of Europe’s top leagues. This would place them as the second team in the major European leagues to win their domestic title this season, following Bayer Leverkusen who celebrated their triumph last Sunday in Germany.

Currently, Inter leads Milan by 14 points in the league standings. A win in the derby would extend this lead to 17 points, making it mathematically impossible for any other team to catch them. This victory would not only affirm their dominance this season but also mark Inter's 20th national title, moving them ahead of Milan, who have 19, and edging closer to Juventus, the most decorated Italian club with 36 titles.

In addition to the championship, several other records are within reach for Simone Inzaghi's Inter. One significant record pertains to consecutive games with a goal scored. The current record is held by Juventus under Massimiliano Allegri, who scored in 44 consecutive matches from October 2016 to December 2017. Inter is on track to break this record if they manage to score in their upcoming matches against Milan, Torino, Sassuolo, Frosinone, and Lazio.

Another record potentially up for grabs is that of the best defensive record in a Serie A season since the league expanded to 20 teams. The record, also held by Juventus, is conceding only 20 goals, achieved during the 2011/12 and 2015/16 seasons. Inter currently has conceded just 17 goals, putting them in a strong position to claim this defensive accolade.

While Inter may not be able to surpass Juventus's record of 103 points in a single season, they can still achieve a historic milestone by reaching 101 points, which would be the first time Inter has crossed into triple digits.

The significance of Monday’s derby transcends the rivalry, as it could immortalize this Inter team not just as champions but as record-setters, inching ever closer to Juventus's historical dominance in Italian football. This match could be a defining moment for Inter Milan, cementing their legacy both in terms of trophies and remarkable statistical achievements.
