The KNVB released the preliminary squad for the upcoming international break on Friday afternoon. The Dutch national team will play European Championship qualifiers against France and Greece during the October international period.

Compared to the preliminary selection for the previous international break, there are three changes. Steven Berghuis has been included in the provisional group, and there is also a spot on the list for Olij and Frimpong. Olij replaces the injured Justin Bijlow. The latter is absent, as are the injured Memphis Depay and Ian Maatsen. Maatsen is fit but has played less than expected for Chelsea at the beginning of the season.

Olij has never been part of the Dutch squad. The 28-year-old goalkeeper had an excellent season with Sparta Rotterdam and has often been mentioned as an option for the Dutch national team. Frimpong was included in the World Cup squad at the end of last year, but the 22-year-old full-back hasn't been selected since Koeman returned as head coach. Frimpong is still waiting for his Dutch national team debut.
