In September, Grosso took over from Laurent Blanc, who had the worst season start ever with Lyon, gaining only one point from the first four matches. However, under Grosso, things did not improve much. Lyon is still at the bottom of Ligue 1 with seven points after twelve games.

According to L'Équipe and RMC Sport, the club management has decided to dismiss Grosso. Thus, the coaching period of the club's former defender lasted exactly seven matches. Just before the international break, he secured the first league win of the season by defeating Stade Rennes. A defeat against Lille followed on Sunday.

Lyon is yet to officially announce the dismissal. According to RMC Sport, the club is already actively searching for a suitable replacement. Bruno Génésio, Jorge Sampaoli, and Igor Tudor are reportedly the main candidates to fill the vacancy.

The low point for Grosso during his time at Lyon was the match against Olympique Marseille. The opposing fans pelted Lyon's team bus with stones, resulting in serious facial injuries for Grosso.
