Motta's contract expires this coming summer. The two parties have been in talks about a contract extension, but the coach ultimately informed the club's management that he does not want to continue. Bologna announced this on Thursday afternoon.

As a player, Motta played for Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Genoa, Internazionale, and Paris Saint-Germain, after which he began his coaching career at the latter club. He led PSG's Under-19 team in the 2018/19 season and then made his debut as a head coach in professional football at Genoa. Motta later also managed Spezia before taking over at Bologna in September 2022.

In total, Motta led Rossoblu for 75 matches, achieving an average of 1.71 points per game. This season in particular has been very successful for Bologna. They are currently third in Serie A, and Champions League football is already guaranteed. However, Motta is ready for a new challenge.

'In these two years, I have met a developing and also winning coach,' said president Joey Saputo on the club's website. 'He has given the team a brilliant style of play. Reaching the Champions League is a highlight in the history of our club. I would have liked him to stay at Bologna, but I can only thank him and his staff for these wonderful seasons and wish him the best.'

Motta's tenure at Bologna has been marked by tactical innovation and a strong emphasis on youth development. His ability to integrate younger players into the first team and adapt his tactics to maximize their potential has been a key factor in the team's success. This approach has not only secured their position in the Champions League but has also laid a solid foundation for the club's future.

Despite the success, the decision to move on reflects Motta's ambition and desire for new challenges. His impressive record has made him a sought-after figure in the football world. In recent weeks, Motta has been repeatedly linked to the vacant position at Juventus. The Old Lady is looking for a new coach after the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus, one of Italy's most prestigious clubs, represents a significant step up and an exciting opportunity for any manager.

It is still unclear whether Motta has already had discussions with Juventus. However, the speculation highlights the growing recognition of his talents and the impact he has had in a relatively short coaching career. His experience as a player at top clubs in Europe and his successful transition into coaching have equipped him with a deep understanding of the game, which he has effectively translated into his managerial style.

As Bologna prepares for life after Motta, the club will undoubtedly look to build on the foundations he has laid. The search for a successor will be crucial in maintaining the momentum and continuing the development of the team. For Motta, the next step in his career promises to be an exciting journey, whether at Juventus or another top club, as he continues to make his mark in the world of football management.
