Ten Hag dryly after receiving an award: 'You don't win prizes in November'

Erik ten Hag observes that Manchester United is steadily evolving. The manager faced tough times, but in the meantime, he was named Manager of the Month. He views Harry Maguire as a symbol of the British top club's progression.

'Good is not good enough, we still have to do things better,' began Ten Hag through the official channels of the club, previewing the match against Bournemouth.

After the home win against Chelsea, peace seems to have returned to Old Trafford, but the coach has been stoically working for weeks anyway. 'We have always set a high standard. And I think that the norm still needs to be raised.'

Ten Hag has warned his team about Bournemouth, which has taken ten points from the last four matches. 'They are in top form. It's a tight-knit team, with incredibly good players. So we need to reach a high level again, as against any opponent in the Premier League. In fact, everyone is killing each other in this competition.'

Praise for Maguire

'We can't do it with just eleven players,' Ten Hag emphasized the importance of a broad squad. However, one player stood out positively last month: Harry Maguire was named Player of the Month. 'He deserves it immensely. We know he had a tough season last year, but he kept fighting and fought his way into the team. He's playing excellently.'

'Maguire leads the team and defends well,' continued Ten Hag enthusiastically. The Englishman is currently preferred over Raphaël Varane. 'Harry is very dominant. Both in possession and when the opponent has the ball. He's only the third defender from Manchester United to get this award, so that says something. It says something about him as a player, but also about his character.'

Prizes in November

Ten Hag reacted dryly to his own award. 'I think it's mainly our way of working that stands out. We continue to develop and make progress. But in November, you don't win anything. We must keep this process going and keep building. I want to win matches, not become Manager of the Month.'
