Warnock has to make way for a new manager: 'I'm retiring again'

Huddersfield announced this on Monday afternoon. Warnock returned to the club in February, where he had already served for two years between 1993 and 1995. With the experienced Englishman at the helm, The Terriers managed to stay in the Championship. The English Dick Advocaat then signed a new one-year contract but is now being thanked for his services.

Although Huddersfield, after a challenging start to the season, won its last two league matches, it is already clear that Warnock will be on the bench for the last time against Stoke City on Wednesday, with striker Delano Burgzorg (on loan from FSV Mainz 05) playing for the club. After that, a new manager will take over from the man who managed Sheffield United for eighteen years.

General Manager Jake Edwards stated in a release that the intention was always to part ways at some point. That time has now come. 'We all agreed that this was not a long-term appointment, but it provided stability during the takeover of the club.' Now that this is completed, Huddersfield wants to work with a new manager.

Warnock was informed of the decision well in advance and broke the news to his squad on Friday in the run-up to the home match against Rotherham United (2-0). 'Of course, I'm disappointed, I'll miss my players. I have a fantastic group, and the jokes with them keep you going. But I've always said I'd leave when they were ready for a new step. So I'm retiring again.'
